Situated in the middle of the Normandy department of Orne the Pavillon de Gouffern, a hunting manor of the 16th and 17th centuries, offers you an unforgettable stay in its 80 ha (approx 200 acres) of wood and parkland. Gastronomy and peace have a place of honour at the Pavillon de Gouffem.

The park is located in the forested area of Gouffern. 4th in Orne for its size of 3400 ha, 3000 of them in and around the village of Silly-en-Gouffern.

This is the forest the American Army fought it's way through in August 1944 as it strove to meet-up with the Britanic forces - the Poles and the Canadians - in the encirclement and destruction of the German 7th Army. This battle, known as the Battle of the Falaise Gap, brought to an end the Battle of Normandy.

Its deciduous trees make up 95% of the species:-

Mainly of magnificent beeches, some of which tower above 40 meters, and oak-trees these woods consist of some forty other species, among them: wild cherry trees, japanese cryptomerias, maples, sitka epiceas, douglas, larocio pine trees, larches, alisiers, tulip-trees, yoke-elms, vancouver fir trees, walnut-trees, chestnut-trees, sequoias...

You are unlikely to go for a walk without seeing deer (very numerous in the protected area of the park), squirrels, flights of duck, woodcock, fox or maybe a wild boar... all in an environment specific to wild animals.Forest Path

At the end of the forest path lies the lake, filled by natural springs. Here you will be able to rest on a bench before resuming your walk.

 

 

Prices for Pavillon de Gouffern include; 5 nights accommodation, 5 days guided touring, breakfasts and 3 evening meals.
They do not include; Drinks not served with meals, lunches, entry fees to museums etc. or two evening meals when we shall eat out.
